The summer holidays are slowly coming to an end and I am so not looking forward to it ending because I always enjoy spending time with my children, going out, doing fun things together. Summer holidays are always fun! This past weekend, I took my 5 year old daughter, Janis, to the Lekki Arts & Craft Market. (Remember in my last post about my visit to the arts market, I said I was going to take her to the visit the market). She was so excited as she is an emerging art enthusiast, she loves anything to do with art.
It was fun and interesting watching Janis go through the stalls! I can tell you she had never seen so much art in one place and they were all unique. Apart from the art and paintings on display, there were loads of jewelleries to look through. The beads were amazing, lovely colors and well made. And they were really affordable too!
And of course, she insisted I buy her some fashion jewellery! She got some amazing bracelets made from a kind of black onyx material and colored beads. Very unique items and quite affordable too! We also got a crash course on the different kind of beads used in making jewellery and where they we could get them.
The handbags were not left out! She had fun modelling different colors and eventually settled for a print bag…….! Janis definitely knows what she wants. Watching your child do something she loves, something she is interested in is an amazing experience! I could see wheels turning in her head as she examined the different types of art works on display.
It is always fun to spend time with my children. I learn a lot about them each day and it is amazing how they are so alike and yet love different things. Janis is an avid art lover and she started painting before she was 5! You can follow her on instagram: @artzbyjanis where she has some of her work on display. So bringing her to an Arts market, I tell you was the highlight of her summer holiday, she kept going around expressing delight at the different crafts on display and of course she asked a million questions! She was so delighted and wanted to buy everything she saw.
We also got flat mats, which we are taking back with us to London. She wants to paint it and use it for decoration. My little Janis is very creative, can’t wait to see what she will do with the mats.
Whew! Motherhood isn't easy! Between school runs, grocery shopping, after school activities and household chores, it can be very tiring and I just want to crawl under my bed covers and just tune it all out but it is moments like this, spending time with them that matter. When I do something for any of my children, the joy they feel, the smiles of love they give me simply because I did something they love makes me feel good about what I do for them!
The beautiful thing about our visit to the market was the fact that Janis got to learn a lot about Nigeria through the arts on display. It was a fun filled trip but also educational :)
On a final note:
So to all the Mums out there, whenever you feel like it's all coming down around you and you just want to curl up and disappear, take a deep breath and think of the smiles they give you, that's all it takes to make you feel better! Whoever said motherhood was easy??!!!
