Updated: May 28, 2020

Lagos based Luxury clothing designer, Yemisi Ademokoya owner of Salt of Da Earth, was all smiles at her first runway debut "It's long overdue, I am so excited to be showing my new collection" She says as she welcomes people to the venue.

This is one fashion show I was looking forward to as Yemisi is my favourite designer! I love her clothes and she is one designer that helps her clients express themselves through clothes.

Yemisi Ademokoya, founder Salt of Da Earth

“We want our brand and designs to showcase our rich culture and heritage through timeless pieces I create, I want each outfit created by me to tell a story, I look at a client and I think and visualise what would suit her” Says Yemisi. “Our mission is to position my brand; Salt of Da Earth to be an international lifestyle brand that embodies the essence of Contemporary African, chic, originality and style. It was really tough as I had to build a fashion company from scratch but I was determined to build a local company that would showcase Nigeria and fashion "

Yemisi Ademokoya founded Salt of Da Earth in London in 2008, whilst she was in Aberdeen studying for an MSc and since then, the Lagos based Self-Taught designer’s main aim has been to push her brand to become one of the biggest names on the Nigerian Fashion scene. Yemisi’s creative flair is visible in all her pieces and she has a knack for identifying what would suit each of her clients. She believes “Style is a choice and you make yours".

The event titled "JUSTIVAL 2019 (A Nite of networking through entertainment, music, fashion & comedy) was held at held on the 29th September 2019, at DVenue Marque by Cedarwood, Waterfront Corporation Drive, Victoria Island Extension and organised by Adewale Ademokoya, CEO of Just U Magazine. It was a night of fun and comedy, Nigerians are known for their love of comedy and music.

Kaline wearing "Sylvia" an outfit designed by Yemisi, opened the show with her hit songs. "The outfit "Sylvia", a jacket with flowers and Ostrich feathers and shorts was made with vintage Aso-oke and was designed with Kaline in mind, her love for flowers inspired the design" Says Yemisi

Remember my first photoshoot as a Model? I wore clothes designed by Yemisi (You can read all about my photo shoot in my blog post titled" "Lagos and Fashion: My Street Style with a Twist) So it's no surprise I was determined to see her fall line and see what she would come up with. Yemisi makes awe-inspiring clothing and her choice and combination of fabrics is intriguing. Choosing fabrics is the most important step in sewing a garment and Yemisi has a knack for choosing just the right fabric for each of her finished garments.

I Love this outfit! Classy and Timeless and the fabric designed by Patrick Anyaski has become a staple in all her collections!

Every lady needs a Patrick Anyaski in her life!

This purple satin shorts with its matching kente jacket are a must have. Simply irresistible! I Love the fact that you can go casual in this outfit wearing a pair of sneakers or glam it up with a pair of strappy heels and loads of accessories! My Choice: a pair of sneakers and a cross body bag :), I already have the style, oh yeah... just shaved my hair and am sporting a very chic hairstyle. Look out for that in my next blog post.

"Sylvia" Chic! Casual!

Ah! I love this! "Chelsea" worn by the ever stylish Feyi Koshoni of Adunni Couture who supplied the jewelleries worn by the models. Lovely outfit; I would wear it for a night out with the ladies, what do you think?

Aria (Black hooded dress) inspired by Game Of Thrones is; refreshing, interesting and a must have from her fall line! Now, this I love! very laid back and eye catching!

"Aria"

I loved the "York City"; posh, very cool, refreshing! And the hairpiece and strappy sandals complimented the outfit! Snappy!

"York City"

The “Atarodo” gown! Sizzling hot and the model wearing it, nailed it! This gown is guaranteed to turn heads! Sizzling! And the drop earrings from the Adunni Collection is the perfect jewelry to compliment the outfit! Very eye-catching outfit!

The “Lere” gown has to be one of my favorite! I would rock this outfit with knee length boots, giving it a bit of an attitude! Have already ordered mine! My December is going to be lit!

"Lere"

The outfits showcased by Salt of Da Earth are simply phenomenal. Her creative flair and use of fabrics to create quintessential styles is evident in her latest collection. She has attempted to design clothes which are functional as well as aesthetically pleasing and timeless.

As fashion designer, a lot of work is done to have a successful runway show. I have to commend Yemisi and her team especially the models (provided by Isis) who did justice to the clothes! Wow! Effortless, fabulous and chic! The models gave the clothes attitude, like I did in the first photo shoot!

Kudos to Esther Obahi head of the media team, Turbanator who provided the fascinators, Ibilol (For their unique aso oke fabric), Pajoules who supplied the beads worn by the models and used to make the "Iyawo" outfit and Ify Nwobodo who provided footwear for the models!

Fabrics provided by Shauntifashio was amazing, unique swatches and of course make-up and hair was done by Glamsmakeup and Jerry Plus.

And the models! What can I say? They wowed the whole audience! Black is indeed beautiful!

And finally Kaline closed the show wearing the much awaited “Iyawo’ outfit! “This piece “Iyawo” is a high fashion bride, who loves lovery fabrics and details. She isn’t your regular bride and she is not afraid to disrupt the status quo” Yemisi said when asked about Kaline’s final outfit. “It is my favorite outfit from my latest collection” she adds with a smile.

The Nigerian fashion scene is booming, definitely evolving and ready to take over the world. Fashion in Nigeria is diverse reflecting its many ethnic groups and Nigerian Fashion Designers are constantly reflecting this in the collections. Yemis Ademokoya of Salt of Da Earth is definitely one Nigerian Fashion Designer to watch out for.

I am definitely looking forward to her next runway show! I am excited for her next collection!

"Style is a choice, make yours"

Warm Wishes,

Omo
